As small business owners and managers, we all face similar challenges. We are united by our love of design, our management of creative individuals and our service to our clients. I feel extremely fortunate to be associated with such a diverse, talented group of leaders.

Twenty-five years ago, the APDF was founded by a handful of owners of Midwest and Northeast industrial and graphic design firms, with a mission of focusing on the business of design. As always, peer-to-peer interaction among some of the best and brightest minds in our profession is still our hallmark. Today, as then, we continue to look for ways to become better business people in a field that is growing more and more complicated. As firm leaders, we know that being great designers is simply not enough. We have to be great business people, too. Read the rest of this entry »

The question we asked ourselves:

What is the ideal way to buy design?

For the last 18 years or so, APDF has been an invaluable resource for Sundberg-Ferar.

The insights we’ve gained and the friends we’ve made have encouraged us through thick and thin.  Although I have not been to every Exchange, I have been to at least a dozen and I always find the investment well worth it.  We have two relatively new owners on our team at SF and we are bringing them along this year in the hope that that APDF will continue to be a long-term strategic resource for us.

This year’s theme of “On” seems pretty appropriate.  Near as I can tell the economy is back “on” (sooner than I thought), and it’s time we start flipping our switch from “survive-this-year” to “make-hay-while-the-sun-shines.”

Looking forward to seeing everyone!
